I am a veterinarian, and I use a veterinary program called Avimark (www.avimark.net). It is the most popular veterinary management program in the world, with some 10,000 active hospitals. Documents can be managed either with MSWord or "OpenOffice" (it works fine with LibreOffice, and works with LO 4.0). There is a BIG problem which prevents more of us from using LO.
Avimark uses what it calls "merge words" to accomplish this, and the instructions are in this document: http://www.avimark.net/images/stories/documents/Users_%20Manual/Chapter%2023.pdf

In MSWord, a user can make a document with a text box, convert that text box to a frame (in order to keep the image from becoming larger than the frame, and merge an image from a variable file into the frame. In LO, when I try that, I get the following error:

com.sun.star.task.ErrorCodeIOException:.

A similar problem occurs when the user tries to merge any (not just an image) "merge word" into a table.

I greatly appreciate the FOSS community and love the work that the LO programmers have done, but I have been reporting this to OpenOffice since OOo 1, and haven't gotten anyone who is willing to work with this. Is there something I can do or donate to get this issue resolved?

Thanks for any consideration you might give this matter.

Please indicate the explicit steps taken to do this, because there is no similar ability in LO. A text box is a type of frame, but it cannot receive a graphic and cannot be converted in the manner indicated. The Insert > Frame... facility allows the insertion of a frame that can in turn have a graphic object inserted into it. This also limits the dimension of any inserted graphic.

Presumably the reference is to using "merge words" (from the indicated chapter) like <animal-pic> or <client-pic> in a text box, which then expand / link to the graphic in question. This will not work for a text box for the reason indicated. Please try this in the type of frame mentioned and report back if you still have the problem.

Please indicate the file format (DOC, DOCX, ODT) being used and provide a sample file if possible. Thanks.

Marking as NEEDINFO - even if we get the information it's almost impossible for anyone to confirm this and even harder for a developer to ever fix it given that Avimark is closed source, proprietary software.

For now marking as NEEDINFO - once information is provided that was requested in comment 1 please set to UNCONFIRMED and we'll see if there is anything at all we can do. Very likely that there is not but we'll start with getting the information.

You can probably get a demo disk from Avimark www.avimark.net
In Avimark, users save the documents at .doc or .docx, not as .odt
I have uploaded a document which works in word but not in LO.
Thanks for looking into this.
