Description Leon Arundell 2013-09-01 23:42:46 UTC
Writer does not display additional carriage return characters, copied from PDF documents in Document Viewer, into MSWord documents being edited in Writer, until the document has been saved and re-opened.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Copy a two-line section of text from a PDF document in Document Viewer (I use Document Viewer 3.4, but I have been experiencing this problem for several years).

2. Paste the text into a Writer document. The text typically displays with one carriage return per line or section of text. (To display carriage returns, select "View > Nonprinting Characters" from the LibreOffice menu.)

3. Convert the text to a single paragraph by deleting the intervening carriage return/s. You can do this by either (a) placing the cursor to the immediate left of the carriage return and pressing the <Delete> key, or (b) placing the cursor at the beginning of the next line and pressing the <Backspace> key.

4. Save the document in Microsoft Word 97/XP format.

5. Reopen the Word document. The deleted carriage returns have reappeared.

The non-displayed carriage returns seem to exist immediately to the left of the carriage returns, as the following procedure shows:

A. Copy a two-line section of text into Writer, from a PDF document in Document Viewer.

B. Place the cursor immediately before the carriage return at the end of the first line, and press the <Backspace> key once only, to delete the non-displayed character. The cursor does not appear to move.

C. Delete the carriage return by pressing the <Delete> key.

D. Save the document in Microsoft Word 97/XP format, close it and reopen it. In this case, the carriage return DOES NOT reappear.
