Description Máirín Duffy 2014-05-01 14:16:36 UTC
Problem description:

Some of the slide layouts provided in LibreOffice aren't appropriate for a title slide. When you select one of these layouts for use with a slide created using a title slide master, the results are nonsensical.

It would be nice if there was a way to associate particular layouts with particular slide masters to streamline the layout choices users have to those that make sense / have been designed accordingly for use with that master.

E.g., the way I would envision this working is that you could check on or off various layouts in the layouts selector while you have the master slide open. You could also apply the layouts to the master slide to style how they would look when a user using that master slide selected that layout. The checking on / checking off of layouts for a master slide could work similarly to how you can currently hide/show slides in the slide pane.

I'm happy to work with anyone taking up this bug to develop mockups / do user testing of design ideas to figure out the right way to enable this.

Hi Máirín,

Reading my other comments, it's obvious that I'm used to sort of 'in this way can I also achieve that'.. Say workarounds.

So > New to this idea for an enhancement too.

Cor, if you have another way to achieve this let me know. I've tried hacky work arounds and the best I can do is one master slide for every single slide, which is pretty nonsensical. :(

Mairin is asking if you know another way for someone who is designing a slide master to associate individual layouts with their slide master and disable layouts that aren't a good match. Or at minimum, a workaround that lets them set a "default" layout for a slide master.

This would help the user when they import a new slide master, because they would automatically be shown the ideal layout for that slide master. If the slide master was designed to be a title slide for the entire deck, the designer could set a default layout with a title, subtitle, and author name, for example. If the slide master design is intended to be a "content" slide, perhaps the default layout associated is one with a Header 1 and Outline, and better yet, also allows the designer to associate and format a few other layouts for different types of content.

Currently, there does not appear to be a way for a master slide designer to show the user what kind of layout to apply, or for what type of content it is intended to be used.
