Description Geoffrey 2014-10-30 13:38:00 UTC
If you click Insert -> File, several things can happen:
* You are lucky. Text is imported from a file (this is the intended use case, I believe).
* You are semi-lucky. LibreOffice does not freeze and it reports an error: "File cannot be loaded". The only option you have is clicking OK here.
* You are unlucky. LibreOffice freezes for a long time (this can happen with big files). Actually you have to kill the process.

It should not try to import EXE, ZIP or JAR files. Alternatively, a hyperlink can be created to the resource instead of embedding it.

Also, this option should do the same as Insert -> Image if you select an image file.

Unfortunately without clear reproduction steps (and preferably a file that triggers this error), we can't do much with these claims. Setting as NEEDINFO until more information is provided.

This is not specific to this menu item. See in Bug 80038 what could happen if you try to open EXE file.

This is an interesting idea, however I'm not sure how such hyperlink could be useful. And anyway that probably not what a user expect to happen when using this menu item.

In 4.4 this menu renamed to "Document..", so there should be no more confusion in this regard.
