Confirm. Win 8.1 32-bit / LO 4.4.0.1 (4.4RC1). Note that you don't need "example" files. Just create new one, even empty, in Microsoft Office 2003 XML format (see description of bug 88022), close and open it again. It will stay locked until soffice.bin terminates. It has no relation to Writer.
