Bug reported by Martin-Éric Racine on the Debian BTS a year ago. Initially found in nsc driver 2.7.6.5, still valid in 2.8.1 (and very probably in 2.8.2 too since its ChangeLog is only about compilation).

Upon X session startup and at random moments later during the session, the mouse pointer bitmap turns into a square of pixel noise. The pointer bitmap is sometimes restored, whenever an application changes it e.g. from an arrow to a text selector, then distorted again later at random.

Whenever this happens, it becomes extremely difficult for the user to figure out which part of the pointer is supposed to be centerd on a widget they need to click to interact with applications.

This does not happen using the xf86-video-vesa driver. However, the VESA driver makes a poor substitute for the NSC driver, because it is slower and it produces an off-center image that exceeds the monitor's screen space, so the VESA driver cannot be used a temporary work-around.

We have seen this bug on Geode SC2200 boards here as well.
It goes away when acceleration is disabled.
Also the garbled cursor leaves a trail.

Is this still an issue?  This is not likely to be fixed as it's not in a common 
driver.  If you can provide a patch, it would be welcomed.
