Description Carl Michal 2007-05-14 11:30:10 UTC
Trying to run an i915 in a dell laptop in dual head mode. A configuration that worked with the pre-modesetting driver now crashes the server on startup.

I'll attach the log.

Does this still exist in the latest driver? Please specify the driver version you are using, and attach xorg.conf.

xorg conf

My xorg.conf is attached.

If I comment out the BusID lines in the Device section, the server doesn't crash
on startup, but I don't get screen 0 and screen 1 - though xrandr will turn on the vga output - but as part of screen 0.

I'm currently using xorg-server-1.4-r1 (gentoo)
and xf86-video-intel-2.1.1

So you're using new driver code but deprecated xorg configuration.
To support dual head with the new RandR1.2, you should just use one Device section and one Screen section in xorg.conf. You can write xorg.conf with reference to http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/dualhead.html.

Please reopen if you still see this issue with the new xorg.conf.
