Description Andrew Moise 2007-05-23 21:41:04 UTC
When I launched my X server (Debian sid, version 7.2-3) with the Debian intel driver 2.0.0-1, it would sometimes work at lower display resolution, sometimes put my monitor into DPMS mode (see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10487 for more on that), and sometimes crash my entire system. Comments in bug 10487 indicate that that bug is supposed to be fixed in git, and I'm still getting the system crash running on git (d172344599585e11388e59659dc9aaa86d7a31c1), so I guess it's time to file a separate bug about it.

The symptoms are monitor going into DPMS mode, ssh sessions being dropped, and the keyboard doing nothing (Ctrl-alt-backspace and the like). Xorg.0.log seems to be successfully written, so I'm including:

1. A configuration and a log file from a session that didn't crash.
2. A configuration and a log file from a session that did crash.

Both of these sessions used the git driver (d172344599585e11388e59659dc9aaa86d7a31c1). The crash was intermittent with the 2.0.0-1 driver; I don't believe that the change of configuration had anything to do with the crash, but these are the most easily available records I have to send. If you want me to test any other particular things I can do that.

I should mention that I had 'xrandr -o right' early in my .xinitrc for both of the above sessions. I've seen the crash in 2.0.0-1 without that line, though.

Thanks.

This particular bug appears not to exist in 2.0.0-5 from Debian experimental,
so presumably it's been fixed in xorg's git, but there is a crash on _exit_
in 2.0.0-5. I've reported the crash on exit to Debian's bug tracker
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=430498) as a separate bug.

Closing this one as the original bug seems to be fixed. Please file a separate freedesktop.org bug for the crash on exit bug if it still exists in the latest driver.

The crash on exit bug seems to be fixed in Debian driver version 2.1.0-2. Thanks for the followup!
