Description Brice Goglin 2007-06-14 14:12:12 UTC
Bug reported on the Debian BTS by Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe 2 years ago, still applies to Xserver 1.3. See below.

Brice

While migrating from XFree86 to X.org, I tried to replace the -xf86config option via -config which, according to X -help, should do the same (although X.org does understand -xf86config, it's not documented).

Surprisingly, `X :1 -xf86config xorg.conf' works as expected, while `X :1 -config xorg.conf' does not:
  Fatal server error:
Cannot move old log file ("/var/log/Xorg.1.log" to "/var/log/Xorg.1.log.old"

It seems as if -config releases privileges too early while -xf86config
does not.

Oops, it's debian-specific, sorry for the noise, closing.
