The output of /proc/cpuinfo, might be useful to see what features the CPU has. processor : 0 cpu : POWER5 (gr) clock : 1502.496000MHz revision : 2.2 (pvr 003a 0202) processor : 1 cpu : POWER5 (gr) clock : 1502.496000MHz revision : 2.2 (pvr 003a 0202) timebase : 188050000 platform : pSeries machine : CHRP IBM,9124-720 I forgot to mention that this was liboil-0.3.12-4.fc8.ppc64 (with the patch from bug 11134) And the same on PPC (32-bit): Program received signal SIGILL, Illegal instruction.
