I can not reproduce this bug, glxgears is OK no matter whether DRI is enabled or disabled. I use: xserver- master tip; Mesa - master tip; kernel - 2.6.22rc3. Why did you use AIGLX? Could not you start DRI? ok. That did it. AIGLX must now be explicitly disabled otherwise it results in a crash. It wasn't necessary up to now. sounds this bug fixed. mark it as resolved...
