I installed 6.7.99.903 and it was runing quite OK for a couple of restarts. But 
then when I restarted my computer and when it should enter X I just got a black 
screen and nothing happened. By examining the xorg log I found out 
that /dev/mouse which has been set as core pinter device has been deleted. 
 
If X could not set/use corepointer device it shouldn't just stay at black 
screen. It should at least put you back to console with error visible or even 
better just start the X but without mouse.

This is the log from the last time that I just got black screen when core
pointer device didn't exist.

The solution is to manually edit xorg.conf and change the mouse input device to
a valid device id /dev. But X shouldn't lock up like that if it can't find the
mouse! I get a blank screen and absolutely no input (from keyboard or mouse). I
had to remotely log into my computer and restart it.

This is still an issue in the recent release of modular xorg (rc3). Is happens
if corepointer or corekeyboard can't be found. The only way to solve it (afaik)
is to reboot, or perhaps remote login. This is most annoying, I would appreciate
if someone could look into this problem. It would be best if  X just failed to
start if it can't find them.

The reason it ends up with a blank screen is that the server crashes while
trying to restore console. Someone will have to provide a backtrace for the crash.

Marking broken (status null/blank) bugs in xorg with no activity in a long time as fixed. Please reopen if you think it's necessary, but first do a search if a similar bug report is already filed and in a NEW/ASSIGNED state. These bugs do not currently show in most search results as they do not have any status.
