Basically, using --variables would list all variables that the module defines.

Still not tested because I can't compile pkgconfig.

4 years, no updates, Havoc, will this enhancement be applied or should I list the bug as WONTFIX?

Don't ask me... I haven't maintained pkg-config in years. It probably makes sense to mass-reassign any bugs that are assigned to me.

Patch to implement variables listing with the 0.23 release

This attachment provides a new patch to list the variables of a .pc file, patched against the 0.23 release of pkg-config. The new switch is --print-variables. Apply with patch -p1 <thisfile into the top level source directory.
