Description Andreas Kloeckner 2007-12-03 09:42:35 UTC
Ever since I upgraded to Debian's xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.2.0-1, my external VGA display turns off randomly while in X. I use compiz. This issue seems to occur more frequently while playing back Flash video, but other workloads (gvim) cause it, too. Switching to console and trying Fn+F7 (BIOS output switch) does not manage to revive the external display, and neither does restarting the X server. Only a full reboot helps. :-(

I should add that this is on an i915 in a Thinkpad R52.

It seems that the retrace signals are generated properly--the external LCD knows what the resolution and refresh rate are supposed to be--there are just no pixels shown.

Note that the bug occurs only sporadically--sometimes it takes an hour for it to show, sometimes only a few minutes.

could you try to turn off framebuffer compression and retest? I'm asking because it might be a dup of bug# 13418...

a log file with "modedebug" option turn on will also be helpful.. thanks.

This hasn't happened in a while, consider it fixed for now.
