1. the problem is unrelated to FreeBSD because the Xserver included in Knoppix 5.3 shows the same problem; 2. the VGA chip is: vgapci0@pci0:1:0:0: class=0x030000 card=0x118d10cf chip=0x8d045333 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'S3 Graphics Co., Ltd' device = '86C410 ProSavage DDR' class = display subclass = VGA Kernel panics are kernel bugs, not Xorg.
