I ran this under a 2.6.22 kernel.
This resembles many other nv bugs, and may have the same cause. However, most of them seem to describe a problem that develops after the window system is going. It never gets started for me. xf86-video-nv has been officially unmaintained for a bit now, and we are closing all -nv bugs. If your problem was not addressed, and -nv is still broken, please try xf86-video-nouveau. Thank you. |

Created attachment 14989 [details] log When I attempt to start X using the open source nv driver the system hangs. The screen shows either black or very large dark gray bands on a black backgound (the latter is with the most recent version. It went black after awhile.) It is unresponsive to mouse and keyboard. To get the system back I must power cycle or use ssh to reset. I've experienced this bug through many generations of the server, having originally encountered it in Dec 2005 with 6.8.2. Originally it consumed all CPU, but I'm not seeing that now. See bugs.debian.org/342817 for my original report; I also reported it on the Xorg's X list. I've attached logs. I've been able to use the proprietary nvidia driver, but, as packaged on Debian, this only works with older kernels. Thus, I have no working nvidia driver for current kernel. Intel 945PSN motherboard, P4 3.0GHz CPU, and GeForce 6600 LE video chipset. 256MB eVGA GeForce 6600 PCI-E video card. Debian GNU/Linux, testing aka etch.
