Description ian 2004-10-03 07:13:13 UTC
Some windows randomly disappear. It isn't application specific, as it may be an

emacs, an xterm or anything else (it also disappears from windows menu from
sawfish). It happens randomly. The application still is running. I restart
sawfish but the window is still disappeared.

Perhaps you could tell me were to look.

Also happens in xorg 6.8.1.

When the window disappears it is still listed in xlsclients, but if I restart
the window manager it isn't listed. I tried to switch to another windowmanager
(twm) after a window disappears but it doesn't appear. The owner of the window
is still alive.

I know this info isn't so usefull, but this bug happens frequently (once in tree
days) so I can provide backtraces, or anything that could be usefull.
(Last time the disappeared window was stalled in select)

I'm experiencing the same issue as well. The windows will randomly disappear
once in a while. It started happening about 1.5 years ago <g>. Its not related
to the window manager since it happens with both sawfish and metacity.

Here's dump of xwininfo check of one of such windows:

xwininfo: Window id: 0x4e00001 "xchat"

  Absolute upper-left X: 10
  Absolute upper-left Y: 10

Note that i'm running a dual head setup (with xinerama) with a total desktop
size of 3200x1200. I've seen reports of a similar problem while using Xinerama.

Ping!

I use xinerama too. So perhaps is xinerama related.

When I filled my hardware was ati agp + sis pci but now I changed to a dualhead
nvidia. Since then the bug only happened two or three times (not sure if its the
same thing or an aplication bug). I'll try now with X11R7.0.
Comment 6 Erik Andren 2006-05-31 07:04:46 UTC
ian, were you able to reproduce it with 7.0/7.1?

Marking broken (status null/blank) bugs in xorg with no activity in a long time as fixed. Please reopen if you think it's necessary, but first do a search if a similar bug report is already filed and in a NEW/ASSIGNED state. These bugs do not currently show in most search results as they do not have any status.
