in src/Makefile.am,

cairo-quartz-font.pc isn't included in the list: backend_pkgconfigs

So it doesn't get installed...

Thanks for the report.

Richard Hult just sent a note to the mailing list saying the same thing, so it's fixed now in the upstream source.
