I found that disconnecting my s-video lead fixes this. It also fixed a couple of issues with compiz - My background image was trashed and when using the enhanced zoom plugin the top 4/5 of the screen could be zoomed seperatly from the bottom 1/5. This is at 1024*768 so I suppose it fits with the s-video res listed in the log. Created attachment 16978 [details]

Sorry to be so slow to test, but the disable TV out patch does not totally fix this. What happens now is that if s-video is connected I just get a blank screen when I startx with the radeon driver. Monitor is on (not standby) and I can ctrl alt bs and get console back OK, I can also use the vesa driver OK. *** Bug 16185 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** (In reply to comment #6) > please try the patch in Bug 16185 > It does not fix it. To recap and add a bit more info. With s-video connected. Bootup screens and console are displayed normally on both TV and vga monitor. startx = vga monitor black, but on and X is functioning OK AFAICT. TV is showing rapidly scrolling black, white, black, white short line pattern. quit X = vga monitor has normal console back TV now has green console with text still visable ie. not the same green as the background green. I don't have my X1600pro anymore - have a HD3850 now so can't test anymore. Just before I pulled the X1600 out, I tried the radeonhd driver and the bug exists for that as well. The bug does not occur with my HD3850 using either driver. (In reply to comment #8) > The bug does not occur with my HD3850 using either driver. > Spoke too soon. I've just noticed a slight glitch. With the TV on after quitting X (this didn't happen the first time I tested) the VGA console on the monitor and on the TV display had spaces replaced by fat = and - replaced by spaces. Still worked OK. (In reply to comment #9) > I've just noticed a slight glitch. Still worked OK. > This maybe a bogus test though, as I had run the vesa driver first and not restarted. (In reply to comment #4) > What happens now is that if s-video is connected I just get a blank screen when > I startx with the radeon driver. This may be related to bug 16781. On my mobility X1400, if I have either the VGA or S-video connected when starting X, I get a blank screen on LVDS as well as the VGA or S-video. However, with no external connection, X starts the LVDS fine. I re-enabled S-video just to test it. The tv screen image is garbled, but I don't have any of these problems with green colors. This should be fixed in git master and 6.12.x. Please re-open if this is still an issue. |
