This is a forward of a bug report I filed on launchpad.net against PolicyKit and its frontends. Long story short, PolicyKit decides to disregard the default value for the CPU Frequency Governor by setting it on Performance. This causes my laptop to shut down from overheating and bork my partition.

Unhelpful error messages, lack thereof and apparent contradictions (you need to change org.freedesktop.policykit.modify-defaults to change org.freedesktop.policykit.modify-defaults) prevented me to fix the situation in time.

Hi,

I am closing this report as I don't consider it to be a useful
bug report for you at this point. I am talking to the reporter
in the Ubuntu bug and trying to find the specific problems
that they had. I will forward any more specific bug reports
as needed.
