With the radeon driver enabled my Radeon R350 does not run.

Any chance you could get a useable backtrace with GDB (http://wiki.x.org/wiki/Development/Documentation/ServerDebugging)?

Does disabling the DRI help (Option "DRI" "False" in the device section of your config)?

Disabling dri did help - the only problem is that glx seems to be not working (apps like ppracer complain). Is this normal? And why does dri not work?

I'm not using that card anymore so it's not a problem for me.
