Approved for the X11R6.8.x branch in the 2004-11-17 release-wranglers call.
Please don't commit it yourself, I'll handle that once the CVS service is
available again.

Can this bug be marked as FIXED (the patch seems to be in Xorg trunk and
X11R6.8.x stable branch) or was there any reason (which I don't remember right
now... ;-( ) why this bug was left open ?

I don't think there was any reason to keep it open, it just got forgotten :). 
With the patch both in HEAD and 6.8 I'd say it's safe to close it -- closing.
