Hmm, there doesn't seem to be much wrong with the kern table at first sight, and the error it reports doesn't give a lot of details either. Do you remember if earlier versions reported the error? (In reply to comment #1) > Do you remember > if earlier versions reported the error? Just checked and v2.26 of the font also reports this error; checked on OSX10.5.5/Intel. According to Mozilla Bug 459711 comment 28 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459711#c28, v2.15 was fine, but I don't think anyone has done additional checking. I did check today to see that 2.29 still produces the error message. The invalid kern tables are presumably the source of many Firefox/Gecko-based-app, crashes; at least every case so far where a broken DejaVu Sans ExtraLight was present and the user had removed DejaVu Sans ExtraLight, their random crashes have ceased. This is still the case with MacOS X 10.6.2, DejaVu Sans Extralight v2.30, and Font Book v2.2.1(163.1). The Font Book program alleges to validate before installing, lets you install the aforementioned DejaVu Sans Extralight font, and then let you validate the font again after installation. When you validate the font after installation you are given a vague error: "'kern' table structure and contents" with recommendation to "not use this font.". Other DejaVu fonts in v2.30 pass all validation by MacOS' Font Book program. Unfortunately I have no idea what font validation means for this proprietary program so I can't be more precise about what it says is wrong with the aforementioned font. Still the same with Mac OS X 10.6.7 and DejaVu Sans Extralight v2.33 "Structure and content of 'kern' table is damaged" I confirm the bug. It still exists in 2.33 on 10.7.2 with the same error in Font Book.app (version 198) "'kern' table structure and contents" In Console.app I got : Oct 23 10:39:17 mdworker[15832]: FontImporter: Validation failed - "/Volumes/Data/Downloads/dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.33/ttf/DejaVuSans-ExtraLight.ttf". Oct 23 10:39:17 mdworker[15832]: FontImporter: Validation Result - "( kATSFontTestSeverityInformation, kATSFontTestSeverityMinorError, kATSFontTestSeverityTechnicalError, kATSFontTestSeverityFatalError, kATSFontTestSeverityMajorError Can reproduce with fresh OS X Lion 10.7.3 and dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.33. *** Bug 40624 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Same error on OS X 10.8.2 and 10.8.3. MacOSX Font importer (Schriftensammlung) reports DejaVuSans-ExtraLight structure and content of "kern"-Table is bad Seems to be this bug, on MacOS 10.8.5 and DejaVu version 2.34. Confirming this is still a problem in v2.34. With Mac OS X v10.7.5, Font Book.app v198.4. Attaching screenshot of the validation error. Created attachment 93315 [details]
