Description Daniele Nicolodi 2003-01-29 04:47:17 UTC
I have installed gnome2 on a PC with only 128 Mb of ram. When i try to start any
application that uses fontconfig library it eat all my memory. I can't start
either gnome-caculator becouse i go out of memory and kernel start to kill
process to free some.

Fontconfig allocate a lot of memory. It allocate an amount of memory
proportional to the number (or the size) of fonts installed on the system.

I think that require more than 128 Mb of ram only to get gnome-calculator (or
any other very simple application that uses fontconfig to get fonts) is
unacceptable.

I have investigated on why fontconfig require so much memory but i hope that is
a bug and not a design fault. If is required i can investigate in details what
appen.
