'sis' driver, default in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) to my SiS M760 video card, makes screen snow (strange colors, flashing screen even if I do not do anything). This issue is NOT visible in screenshots.

This is critical as it makes nobody able to use the 'sis' driver, forcing them to switch to 'vesa'. But 'vesa' is slower and does not support 1280x800 resolution, so often used in notebooks nowadays (I have to use 1280x768, which doubles some horizontal lines).

As this driver worked in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), this is a regression.

Fernando Pereira proposed a configured version of xorg.conf which works for me perfectly in Ubuntu Intrepid (with sisfb module loaded). Here is a permalink:
