Seems the bug is the same as 17988.

Please attach the log file from the failing X server.

This has nothing to do with Mesa; I suspect it's not even up to the driver, but at least this is closer.

log when I do startx -- :1

strange thing, I am not getting logs under my x installed root directory /home/oss64/installroot/var/log/ directory when I do startx -- :1 or startx -- :2

Whereas it is creating logs under the general directory /var/log

i am attaching the same.

Ok. I observed this on openSUSE11 64 bit and Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit with latest git build too. I compiled on jan20.

Cannot do multiple startx. I have checked on RV570GT & RV505 cards.

Please let me know if you need any info regarding the same.

Thanks,
Chandra K.

ok. It is only on openSUSE the logs are not generated at the customised driver place.
My driver is compiled at /home/chandra/jan28/
so the logs should get generated at /home/chandra/jan28/var/log/<xorg.1.log>

This is does not happen, rather it is created at generic location /var/log/<xorg.1.log>

On ubuntu, atleast the logs are created at right place, however the issue is multiple startx does not work.

Any updates on this please?? Let me know if you need any other info in this regard.

Thanks,
Chandra K.
