Description Emanuele Bellini 2009-03-16 05:07:54 UTC
I have a freeze when I go to many specific sites with Firefox: one of these is

www.labmacs.diiga.univpm.it

and click on "Courses". I wait for my computer to freeze and it happens every time.
The only thing I can do is a manual reboot.
I discovered that, unfortunately, I have the same problem when I try to open this
Powerpoint presentation with Openoffice 3:

http://www.dascaricare.net/file-pps/?nav=display&file=161

I have the freeze when viewing the presentation in fullscreen mode (I
mean by pressing the F5 button once the file is loaded).
I don't know where to retrieve useful information, if I have to look for
something, just ask me. For example, I don't know how to retrieve the Xorg version to put above.
I have an ATI Radeon Mobility U1 as a video card.
The bug is related to this one in Red Hat's Bugzilla:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=480349

submitted by me and closed upstream.
Instead, it seems it isn't related to this one:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16560

I've seen that it doesn't happen in other computers, I start from submitting this bug to the ATI Radeon driver maintainers.

Program versions:
Fedora 10
firefox-3.0.7-1.fc10.i386
openoffice.org-impress-3.0.1-15.2.fc10.i386

please attach your xorg log and config. You log should be in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and your config (if you have one) will be in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Does adding either of these options to the Device section of your config help:
Option "RenderAccel" "False"
or
Option "DRI" "False"
Comment 5 Emanuele Bellini 2009-03-18 11:27:04 UTC
I tried adding the former, it works! Moreover, I can better see the Powerpoint presentation as before some images weren't rendered (I was thinking it was an Openoffice compatibility issue).
I don't know if I have to, but I'm going to try the latter.
Comment 6 Emanuele Bellini 2009-03-19 14:53:09 UTC
The latter doesn't work, it changes only that I can move the mouse... But I can't do nothing else!
Comment 7 Emanuele Bellini 2009-03-20 15:25:32 UTC
With that setting (Option "RenderAccel" "False") I can't see the icons in the tray! Is it a temporary setting, or have I to submit another bug report (in Red Hat or KDE Bugzilla, of course)?

Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not
obviously still valid. Please reopen this bug or file a new report if you continue to experience issues with current releases.
