I'm having problems trying to set up my laptop's graphics card using x.org
6.8.1. The problem is that using the driver "ati" wich is supposed to support
the card, the image gets completely distorted, so distorted that the resulting
image on the LCD is never the same (one of the "images" I can remember was all
the screen white with a lot of blue thin vertical lines on the center of screen,
when what should be displayed was the kdm login window, and always just after
the X server starts, the LCD changes its color from yellow to blue and then it
gets frozen in a still mixture of colors, it's very difficult to describe, sorry).

   I can perfectly run x.org if I set the Driver to "vesa" or "fbdev", the only
problem is that I loose the 2D acceleration, and working with it becomes too slow.

   I don't know what else I can do to solve this, I've tried disabling noaccel,
nolinear, setting the Chipset to "mach64" but the result is exactly the same.

Whats the status of this bug using a current version of xorg?

Well, a year has passed, and the computer doesn't have the same distro. Now it
has Kubuntu and everything seems to work perfectly. After months I discovered
that the problem had to do with Kernel Framebuffer driver. If the kernel
framebuffer was set to use a different resolution than x.org then the corruption
appeared.

I solved the issue setting kernel's framebuffer to 1024x768 (the same that x.org
was using).

Maybe it's now solved, or maybe the kernel framebuffer driver has changed and it
doesn't happen anymore.

I can't give any more information, because as I said, the laptop doesn't have
anymore the same distro and configuration that caused the issue.
