I tried to connect to my test MSN account and it failed with tp-glib assertion failures.

Will guessed correctly that libpurple had been built without ssl support.

libpurple calls report_disconnect_reason with PURPLE_CONNECTION_ERROR_NO_SSL_SUPPORT, but then tries to connect and because it's in the DISCONNECTED state and not _INTERNAL_NEW, TpBaseConnection doesn't like it one bit.
