What's the difference between -2 and -3?
Comment 6 Leann Ogasawara 2009-07-30 13:28:14 UTC
The biggest difference between the 2.6.31-2 and 2.6.31-3 Ubuntu kernels is 2.6.31-3 rebased with mainline 2.6.31-rc3 from 2.6.31-rc2. I've pasted the short changelog below but it can also be seen at https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux .

@Twig, I can work with you in the Launchpad bug report to help narrow this down to an Ubuntu specific introduced regression of a regression between the vanilla mainline 2.6.31-rc2 and 2.6.31-rc3 kernels. We'll post our results back here. Thanks.

Could you test my patches on bug #23082?

Hi, I applied the two kernel patches with no result. I'm afraid I'm not sure how to apply the third patch.

Twig.
Comment 9 Leann Ogasawara 2009-08-11 11:35:56 UTC
Based on information from Twig in the Ubuntu bug report, I'm inclined to believe this is not an issue with the mainline kernel and is an Ubuntu specific issue:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/399821/comments/19

"Just to clarify: The mainline kernel works fine. I can test the latest mainline but it won't be for a day or so.

None of the Ubuntu kernels work since rc2. . ."
