Fixing bug title to show up on radar easier. Do any of the other AGP modes work? Could you test with 1, 2, 4, 8 and see if any of those work? I already did that: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/496653 Also, since last friday, nomodeset stop working on disabling KMS I had to disable compiz to make it usable again. On the thinkwiki mailing list, there are a few more users reporting this, including me. Running Debian/testing & unstable (I guess that says enough) on a Thinkpad Z61m. which has a VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400. KMS is enabled by default on Linux kernel 2.6.32-5-68, and on Testing/Unstable X (X.Org X Server 1.9.4) won't work if you disable it.. My previous work-around (disabling KMS in /etc/modprobe/radeon-kms.conf) had to be undone. It currently boots fine, but the screen will start flickering after a while. Sometimes the flickering is so fast everything turns into a blur, and sometimes you can still see what is on the screen.. Not sure what is the matter, but on the thinkwiki mailing list it was described as: "The GPU loses somehow its synchronization over time." It resets if I close the lid of the laptop. But it is no fun doing that every 30 seconds or so :-)... Your cards are not AGP and the symptoms are not related to this bug at all. Please file a new bug and include your xorg log and dmesg output. Is this issue still present with kernel 2.6.38? No feedback for 3 years. Closing. |

Created attachment 28904 [details] x1600pro AGP lspci output I own an ATI AGP x1600pro, I've been trying to use the latest kernel versions with KMS enabled with no success. It only successfully boots, if I manually disable APG mode setting on Kernel radeon.agpmode=-1 But, it cannot be used on daily basis. It is too slow to redraw window, scrolling and painfully slow to playback video. It is attached on this message a lspci -vnnx of my hardware. Hope that helps.
