Description Panagiotis Papadopoulos 2009-11-15 10:19:04 UTC
As the bug title says:
X-Server from X.Org 7.5 becomes very sluggish (and uses *a lot* of RAM) after some time.
Right now, after an uptime of 18 hours, top reports the following:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 1359 root 20 0 1244m 759m 90m R 26 37.7 284:13.09 X

the KDE system monitor says:

Memory
669 MB
Shared memory
91.8 MB

I know that such numbers are not accurate, but the fact that my whole Desktop feels very sluggish (opening up a minimized window takes almost 10 seconds), tells me that there is something wrong.

I'm using the latest X.Org (7.5) with an Intel GM965, Linux 2.6.31 with KMS enabled, xf86-video-intel 2.9.1, mesa 7.6 on Arch Linux.

I also got KDE Desktop effects (compositing) enabled although I only use very few effects. Compositing type is set to OpenGL, and OpenGL mode to "Texture from pixmap".

I can reproduce the high mem usage and the sluggishness, by simply using my KDE (build from KDE svn trunk) for a couple of hours.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Thank you

Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not obviously still valid. Please file a new report if you continue to experience issues with a current server.
