When I launch Heroes of Newerth I get this error:

Mesa: User error: GL_INVALID_ENUM in glGetString
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
  what():  basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid



My video card is: RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M]

IIRC, HoN requires GL 2.x which is not currently implemented in the open source drivers.

The classic r300 driver has been abandoned long ago.
It was replaced by the Gallium driver r300g.

If you have issues with r300g please file a new bug report with component Drivers/Gallium/r300
