Created attachment 32212 [details] xorg.0.log Hello, I have been trying to get the git version of radeonhd to work with a radeonhd 4670 but I always end up with a black screen when starting Xorg. when I switch back to the terminal the screen flashes green a bit, and then goes back to black and I cannot see anything but the computer is still alive... I have a 2.6.32 linux kernel, with a git mesa. Maybe related but when I modprobe the radeon module, the resolution on screen is wacky, ie I do not see everythin, some part of the screen are outside my monitor. Thanks, John

(**) RADEONHD(0): Option "AccelMethod" "shadowfb" (**) RADEONHD(0): Option "DRI" "on" (WW) RADEONHD(0): DRI conflicts with SHADOWFB You have to decide about acceleration. Loading radeon module can not change resolution unless you use KMS. Do you?

I actually changed to shadowfb instead of exa following a thread I had seen on this mailing list somewhere, but it did not change the black screen. So I know this is not the issue, but maybe one more. > > (In reply to comment #0) > > Maybe related but when I modprobe the radeon module, the resolution on screen > > is wacky, ie I do not see everythin, some part of the screen are outside my > > monitor. > > Loading radeon module can not change resolution unless you use KMS. Do you? > I thought loading radeon was giving me KMS so I guess not. Do I need KMS to get current git working?

I have the same issue with the last 1.3 release... Going back to kernel 2.6.31 fixed it. Maybe some kms issue?

Make sure you do not have KMS enabled. radeonhd does not work with KMS. Check the output of dmesg.

oh that is probably why then, I will try that and update this. Thanks

Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component. Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch.

Hi, This is quite old and since I moved to the normal ati driver and do not get that issue. Thank you for asking about it.
