Currently we build and install gateways.la and gateways.a as well as gateways.so. We should not.

The .la seems to be unavoidable when using Libtool, but packagers can safely drop it (I do that in Debian). Please reopen if that's unacceptable.

The .a has disappeared in 0.9.6, so I'm calling this fixed.
