Description Toralf Förster 2005-03-01 06:15:35 UTC
Under Gentoo sometimes xdm failed to start within boot sequence with:
tfoerste@nhh221 /opt/foldingathome/client1 $ head /var/log/Xorg.0.log
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/nhh221:0
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6

More often however X continues and starts :

tfoerste@nhh221 /opt/foldingathome/client1 $ head -n 15 /var/log/Xorg.0.log
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/nhh221:0
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6

not enough information here to pursue this. could you attach a full log file
from an unsuccessful startup?
Comment 2 Toralf Förster 2005-08-03 01:51:30 UTC
sorry, in the mean time i have a completly new system.
Comment 3 Shawn Starr 2005-10-04 18:50:53 UTC
 segfault:/usr/local/src/sources# Xorg -config /root/xorg.conf.new :1
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/segfault:1
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6

This is normal, its not a bug, though perhaps the output could be 'prettied' up
later on.

Can the reporter verify the X server itself is working fine reguardless of this
output?

Thanks.
Comment 4 Toralf Förster 2005-10-05 05:14:49 UTC
Yes, the X-Server of my current system works fine.
