Description avs 2010-02-01 11:40:19 UTC
I have a small issue with butterfly using telepathy-butterfly 0.5.3-1maemo0 from the MSN protocol plugin for Conversations and Contacts plugin 0.7 for Nokia N900 SW version 2.2009.51-1.

I have seen this repeatedly but I have not managed to find out a way to successfully replicate it (yet). I thought I'd file it here anyway in case someone else sees it.

I have several MSN contacts, but when the contacts are listed in the Contacts list of my N900, one of them sometimes does not have the MSN account address assigned to it. The contact card has an avatar picture, a nickname field, and a status message, but no MSN account address. The contact's presence is correctly displayed and follows her status.

After disconnecting all IM accounts and reconnecting them, the MSN account address appears in the contact details and I am able to message her (at least for a while). After some time, the MSN account address has sometimes again vanished from the contact details. As said earlier, I haven't found yet a way to reliable reproduce this disappearance.

This doesn't sound particularly likely to be Butterfly's fault... to be honest it seems more likely to be the Maemo address book itself.

There's a report on maemo.org suggesting that merged contacts in the address book sometimes get "unmerged" - could this be the same thing? See <http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-devel_free_i386/pidgin-facebookchat/1.63-1maemo0/>, specifically the comment from Nigel Jones at 2010-02-01 11:22 UTC (sorry, there doesn't seem to be a specific URL for that comment). If so, then it's probably a Maemo address book bug, since that comment refers to a different connection manager.

This sounds like a dup of bug #24878.

Try with butterfly 0.5.4; that's the first version to fix that bug. It's in extras-devel.

Please report back after trying it.

Symptoms sound exactly the same.

I tried with 0.5.4-1maemo0 from extras-devel, and so far I have not been able to reproduce. Marking as dup. Thanks.
