XQuartz sets up the keymap dynamically in the server... as such, there's no way for Xephyr nor Xnest to figure out keymappings just through the data in xkeyboard-config.  This may eventually be true for other systems as well.  Xephyr and Xnest should not need to do anything "special" as far as keymapping.  They should just be pass-through.

I haven't looked at it since we discussed the need, no. Frankly, I'm afraid to poke around in XKB. :-)
