It seems odd to have the boxed types be public API without having the copy and free functions also be public, so I'd prefer them to be extern and documented. Please do patches like this based on master, rather than based on your gobject-introspection branch - I'd like to get this sort of enhancement in sooner rather than later. Updated per comments.
