Description Artem S. Tashkinov 2010-07-01 11:58:41 UTC
All Wine application exhibit the same problem under Intel drivers: they flicker too much and UI rendering speed is subpar.

There's no such problem with other GPUs and drivers.

There is *zero* information here. What hardware? Which drivers? How are the measurements performed and what should we measure against?

I know i965+ underperforms, but I cannot accept that i915 does without at least some evidence. At the very least do some profiling and show us which areas are most important to your workload.

Chris, I'm sorry for such a dry bug report, I'm just observing the difference between NVIDIA proprietary drivers and Intel drivers running the same Windows applications under Wine.

I will update this bug report as soon as I find a good measurement of performance or an application which can measure UI rendering performance or/and artifacts/etc.

As always I'm running Fedora 13 i686 with all updates installed, I have "00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 12)" and Intel 2.12 drivers installed.

It's become much less visible in 2.13 (or maybe there was another problem solved in the meanwhile) so I'm closing this bug.
Comment 4 Chris Wilson 2010-10-01 03:58:58 UTC
Hmm, I thought this was due to the overall slow compositing on i965+, so I assumed it would remain unresolved. Could be the FB_ALL_ONES fix (if 64bit) I suppose.

Anyway do you have any insight into what the issue was or how it seems to have improved? Then I can keep a look out for similar issues. An resolved mystery is still a mystery. :(

Well I am now seeing this on 2.20.12 with very recent userspace.

Can you please refresh my memory with a current Xorg.log?
