I don't think the radeon hardware supports sync on green. The driver doesn't either. The Xorg.0.log file in comment 1 of bug 2179 shows "(II) RADEON(0): Sync: Separate Composite SyncOnGreen" for a Radeon 7200. A google search turns up the same line for many other people. This website http://www.bedroomlan.org/~alexios/hardware_sunmonitors.html claims that a Radeon 7500 did it. Any improvements using a more current version of xorg? > The Xorg.0.log file in comment 1 of bug 2179 shows "(II) RADEON(0): Sync:

Just my two cents: The logfile line quoted is from monitor EDID. This just means the /monitor/ can use a SyncOnGreen input signal - it says nothing about the graphics card it's attached to.
I no longer have this SGI monitor, so I can't test this bug anymore. I still do have sync-on-green monitors at hand, and can confirm that the Radeon driver still won't do it (as do many many others). I wouldn't class this as a bug though - it's more like the Radeon chip hardware isn't capable of producing a sync-on-green signal. Using a card that does support it (like, ancient Matrox Mystique series), I can also confirm that the SyncOnGreen option does what it's supposed to do.
