please try to reproduce this with 1.9 or git master, I spend a fair bit of time fixing pointer keys on the last cycle and these problems should be gone now. FWIW, I've just closed it as fixed in 1.9.4rc1 in the Debian BTS. You may want to close it here as well; we can always reopen if the issue is said to persist with 1.9.x. KiBi.
