The driver supports EDID fetching just fine. If you are having a specific issue, please attach your dmesg output and xorg log. Note that the core drm edid validator (not part of the driver) is pretty pedantic about what EDIDs it will accept. See bug 31943. Agreed. The fetching is fine. What I miss on openSUSE-11.3 and Fedora14 is forwarding to clients of the property. On some web pages the following was referred as to show attached properties: $ xrandr --prop But I do not find "EDID" covered. Is'nt it the driver to attach the "EDID" property to the output? (In reply to comment #2) > Agreed. The fetching is fine. What I miss on openSUSE-11.3 and Fedora14 > is forwarding to clients of the property. > On some web pages the following was referred as to show attached properties: > $ xrandr --prop > But I do not find "EDID" covered. Is'nt it the driver to attach the "EDID" > property to the output? The driver just provides the EDID to the xserver if there is one. The xrandr core code in the xserver parses the modes and puts the EDID into the output property. xrandr --props works fine here and shows the EDID blocks for all attached displays. Note some laptops do not have an EDID for the internal panel although most do; in those cases the vbios just provides native mode timing for the panel. Also, you won't get an EDID if the driver is not able to get one due to the monitor not providing one or the drm EDID checker rejecting the it. Closing due to lack of feedback With oS-12.1 LiveCD 0363 kernel-3.1.0-rc09-1-desktop EDID is still missed. The kernel message with dmsg are the same like above. The /var/log/xorg.0.log shows a useful resolution for that laptop monitor. However the the EDID is not propagated to user space as XRandR "EDID" atom. This was tested with xrandr --verbose. The machine is a laptop with ATI Cedar. Consequently tools like oyranos-monitor fail to identify the monitor device and can not select and setup a monitor ICC profile. With a proper other monitor EDID is fine and xcmddc sees the EDID too. I can not understand why the laptop monitor EDID is used in kernel space is but not exposed as the XRandR output "EDID" atom. As requested previously, please attach your xorg log, dmesg output, and the output of xrandr --verbose. Created attachment 53083 [details] Xorg.0.log LVDS with EDID on Radeon Cedar as described in comment 5 Created attachment 53084 [details] kernel 3.1.0 rc9 log fits to comment #5 It doesn't look like your panel provides an EDID. The driver is able to determine the panel's native mode from tables in the vbios if there is no EDID. Created attachment 53087 [details] Xorg-frglx.0.log Xorg.0.log from frglx on the same machine as described in comment 5 It looks like EDID is there. Please attach a copy of your video bios. Looks like it should have one. Other evergreen laptops use the same GPIO lines for EDID and they work fine on them. Does it work with a non-Suse liveCD? Suse sets i2c_algo_bit.bit_test=1 by default which causes problems with some i2c buses. Alternatively, you can try and override that param to 0 and see if it helps. Created attachment 53089 [details]
EDID_spectrometer_primaries_comparision.png
The colour primaries from EDID right and from measurement on the left look reasonably close.
As well the xcmedid output reflect nicely on the frglx data. And the physical dimensions are correct. The primaries and manufacturing date in EDID and in
Xorg.0.log are identical. Where could frglx get that from?

The primaries and manufacturing date in EDID and in > Xorg.0.log are identical. Where could frglx get that from? As I mentioned in comment 14, it looks like there is an EDID, but the radeon driver is failing to fetch it, possibly due to i2c_algo_bit.bit_test=1 being set by default on suse. It gave no ddc connection with xcmddc. fglrx doesn't use the kernel i2c infrastructure. Can you try with the open source driver? Also, I'm not familiar with xcmddc, does xrandr show the EDID?
