In LibO RC4, I can't remove unneeded extensions that shipped with the program.  Mostly these consist of dictionaries for foreign languages. I can remove the extensions that I have installed.  They appear with a little lock symbol in the Extension Manager.  

RC4 is not yet a choice under 'Version' on this site.  Not sure what component this should actually go under.

Would it satisfy you if those "extensions" did not show up in the Extension Manager (if that is what they do)? That you wouldn't think of them as "extensions".

After all, you don't complain that you can't remove other features that you never use, do you? These "foreign" language dictionaries just happen to be in a technical sense packaged as extensions.

BTW, you can remove them by using the installer (Windows Start menu - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - LibreOffice - Modify).

Ah, so you can de-select them during the install process?  If that's the case, I guess the point's moot.  Although, I'd suggest pointing that out somehow on the download page or an attention getting note during the install so that dumb users, like myself, don't file bugs like this.  

Would I be correct in assuming that someday there'll be separate downloads for different languages like OpenOffice.org?

Perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad to ask end-users what dictionaries they want installed during the 'Standard Installation'.  For that matter, could there be an online-installer that would download the dictionaries?

Multilingual install was invented to save disk space and bandwidth on mirrors.
I don't think that in the future there will be separate full language
installers for different languages like OpenOffice.org. 

Netinstall is also considered (at least it is discussed on mailig lists but it does not mean that somebody will write the code for it:)).
