evince 0.3.0 (using poppler 0.3.1) is not able to find 'sol' in the following
PDF document: http://www.ctm-madrid.es/pdf/metro.pdf. xpdf is not able to open
the file (segfault) and acroread 5/7 finds the word as expected.

I can't search for anything in that document (including in acroread 8.1.1) - it doesn't appear to have any fonts. Possibly the document is just an image now.

Do we have the original file for testing?

Brad you didn't get it to search for "Sol"? it works here in acroread

Works for me now (using acroread 8.1.1).

It seems to work fine with poppler-0.11.1.
