Description Ludvig 2011-04-30 10:13:13 UTC
The graphical user interface is not started! This is a security upgrade (kernel update) occurred! Command-line mode using the system, I got the following error messages:

gdm 1276: Warning
gdm 1276: Warning: GdmLocalDisplay
Factory: maximum number of x display failures reached: check x server log for errors.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Segmentation fault at adress 0xa0.
Fatal server error:
Cault signal 11 (Segmentation fault).
Server abortingPlease consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http: //wiki.x.org for help
Please also check the log file at var/log/Xorg.log for additional information.

(EE) fgrlx (0): frigl_Set Suspend Resume State Failed-9.
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to x server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
-------------------------------------------------------------
xinit failed /usr/bin/Xorg is not setuid, maybe thats the reason?
If so either use a display manager (strongly recomended) or adjust /etc/permission.local.

You're not using the radeon driver, you're using the proprietary fglrx driver. X.org doesn't support that driver.
Comment 2 Ludvig 2011-05-01 06:06:21 UTC
(In reply to comment #1)
> You're not using the radeon driver, you're using the proprietary fglrx driver.

Excuse me, I see where this is not driver error, but xorg error!
Comment 3 Alan Coopersmith 2011-05-01 08:51:40 UTC
The log file warns:
[ 19.044] (WW) fglrx(0): * kernel module (fglrx.ko) may be missing or
incompatible *

Perhaps you need a fglrx upgrade that supports your new kernel?

In any case, the stack trace at the end of the log clearly shows the crash
in the closed source fglrx_drv.so, not in the code X.Org maintains or has
access to.
