Kristian thought this was likely a poppler bug. Move bugs against "cvs" version to "0.9.3" so we can remove the "cvs" version. Could you attach the generated PDF and the program used to generate it? With current poppler built with cairo that pdf is misrendered and evince crash
when closed, CVS does the same

On systems that provide bitmap fonts for Helvetica (eg. the xfonts-75dpi and xfonts-100dpi on Debian-like systems), the problem appears. On systems that do not provide bitmap fonts (like Fedora Core), a default Helvetica is provided by the Nimbus face, a Type 1 font that is installed by default. This one does not trigger the problem and the affected documents render fine. On systems that use a custom Helvetica, such as a real Helvetica purchased in OpenType format, the problem arises again. A fontconfig match that provides "Helvetica Neue LT" causes the affected documents to render with weird characters as well. http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=119898 is the gentoo bug for this issue. Now I can't reproduce this problem with several documents from duplicates. Can someone check it also? Nickolay, that's great news! I did indeed check the latest releases only. Did you have to modify all three packages? Hmm, poppler didn't compile from CVS. Do you by any chance have patches handy? Yeah, I forgot about it, sorry. You need to add #include <time.h> to poppler-attachment.h. Hope, someone will handle this problem. I've checked with latest cairo, fontconfig, poppler and evince (all CVS HEAD) and the documents are still rendered showing strange characters. The crash on exit is not fixed either. Btw, the document renders fine if I purge the bitmap fonts from system. It DOES crash if I try to use a REAL Helvetica, which is OpenType font. So, nothing has changed. Heyah! Have a look at bug 5758, the patch Ed attached there solves the rendering problem (and thus the crash on exit) for me! The patch fixed my rendering problems too.
