Description Edward Tandi 2005-09-08 05:37:32 UTC
Version
-------
I am using the Madriva distribution, taking packages from their latest
development snapshots "cooker".
The xorg packages report themselves as version 6.9-0.cvs20050907.1mdk, which
indicate they are the latest CVS snapshots.

Symptoms
--------
1) When Gnome starts up, the previous (gdm) backdrop is shifted left by 50%. The
Gnome backdrop is (sometime) rendered correctly though.
2) When Icons are rendered, they appear 50% left of the position they should be
in. This is particularly noticable with nautilus (unusable) and launcher icons
on the taskbar.
3) Desktop rendered icons are the wrong colour
4) Switching workspaces leaves strange artifacts either side of open windows.
5) Moving windows around leave un-repainted trails.

System
------
Machine Sony Vaio PCG-Z600NE
lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Neomagic Corporation NM2380
[MagicMedia 256XL+] (rev 10)

I have tried to switch of all acceleration, but the problems remain (only the
system is much slower too). Version 6.8 worked fine.

It's horrible.

Did your GNOME version get upgraded as well?

Can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

xorg configuration file

No I did not upgrade gnome at the time, only the xorg packages. I have now
moved back to version 6.8 (which continues to work fine), so it only makes
sense to supply the xorg.conf file.

Xorg log file -when running with 16 bit colour depth (OK).

I have discovered that the bug is to do with using a 24-bit colour depth (which
used to work in 6.8.x). I am now using 16-bit mode OK. The log attached is the
one for the correctly working 16-bit session. I can attach the log for 24-bit
colour depth if it helps.

Are you still able to reproduce this using a modern version of xorg?

I am no longer have the Sony Vaio, as I exchanged it for a newer laptop. This
bug no longer affects me.
