I've not reproduced this using xf86-video-intel.git with either uxa or sna with and without compositing (i.e. gnome-shell and awesome as the WM) on an i5-2520m. Have you tried without compositing, I think it is called Ubuntu Classic or something like that? Chris Wilson, thank you for following up on this. The Description data was obtained in an Xubuntu Live CD Environment: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/12.04/alpha-2/ I am not terribly familiar with compositing, which OS has which backend, etc. However, the problem was not reproducible in a Ubuntu 11.04 Live CD Environment (link is long gone as it's all Live DVD now :( ). I think 11.04 uses Metacity with compositing disabled by default?! I've CC'ed Bryce Harrington on this bug so please correct me if I'm mistaken. I'm a bit wary of comparing 12.04 with 11.04 since virtually every component changed between the two and so it is difficult to judge which single change triggers the bug. There used to be an option on the login screen to select between window managers (and so choose composited/non-composited desktop), hopefully Bryce can tell you where that option is now found. In 12.04, install 'gnome-panel', which will add the "Classic Gnome (no effects)" option. Boot into that and it'll give you a metacity window manager environment without compositing. You can verify that metacity compositing is off as so: $ gconftool-2 -g '/apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager' false Not reproducible using gnome-panel Classic Gnome (no effects). To follow up on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46544#c5 , given this is still reproducible in Trusty 64-bit, would this indicate a bug in xfwm4 (the default Xubuntu window manager), LibreOffice, or is this still considered a intel driver bug? As per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1317043 the phenomenon is reproducible with disparate hardware (nvidia in their case). Doesn't appear to be a ddx bug after all. Chris Wilson, so if it's not a ddx bug, where would you say the bug is in? |
