Description Ulrich Gemkow 2005-10-01 03:57:51 UTC
The Radeon driver ignores ModeLines when using digital displays. The reasoning
behind this is understandable (see comments in source) but user settings should
always be honored.

This prevents i.e. reducing the clock where appropriate (Notebooks)

Probably an "override" option could be provided.

don't see why this is blocking #2859.

Because the currently accepted solution for bug 2859 is to change the
modeline to reduce the blanking times. And the driver currently does
not allow this - it ignores modelines for digital displays.

So solving this bug would allow users to use digital displays with
radeons without patching the driver (which is not an option for
regular users).

It doesn't exactly ignore modelines... Note also that 2859 may be a different
issue, I've been asking for more tests but the users never replied.

No updates for 1,5 years, and using ModeLines on my DVI output works. Marking as fixed, reopen if necessary.
